The Curator’s record

Mr. Marrow is not to be removed from his entrance post, despite his jokes. Visitors should acknowledge his greeting and listen politely when his voice changes. A prolonged explanation of the rules may indicate that he is addressing something other than the visible audience.

Provenance

The skull appeared without invitation upon the Caravan's wooden entrance post and identified itself as Tom Marrow. Every attempt to remove it failed, as it returned by the following morning. After Mr. Marrow delayed a faceless, lantern-extinguishing stranger until dawn by reciting rules and dreadful jokes, the Curator appointed him permanent greeter and guardian of the threshold.

Observed activity

Mr. Marrow speaks freely, announces performances, explains the designated path, and produces an inexhaustible supply of skeletal wordplay. Removal is temporary. When lanterns flicker or something approaches from beyond the path, his tone becomes serious and his recitation of rules can prevent an intruder from crossing the threshold.
