The Curator’s record
Stored beneath a folded cloth on the Curator's desk. Anyone hearing the count should step away before it reaches one hundred.
Provenance
Eveline Duclair counted one hundred strokes nightly until the brush began guiding her hand and promising eternity. After a storm, Eveline vanished from her locked room and the brush remained on her dressing table.
Observed activity
The brush never tarnishes, returns after removal, hums beneath its covering, and may tug at the hair of nearby visitors. Its whisper counts toward one hundred; stopping at ninety-nine has not prevented the final stroke.
