The Curator’s record

The chime fell silent after Elara released the tower's captives. Silence should not be mistaken for proof that the mechanism is harmless.

Provenance

Clockmaker Giovanni Donato built the tower whose twelve chimes opened a passage for the dead. A witch trapped between worlds used its hidden thirteenth toll to keep lingering souls and feed upon them.

Observed activity

At midnight, twelve chimes admit unsettled spirits. The thirteenth permanently binds any who have not let go. Elara helped the captives cross before the final strike, breaking the witch's power but not destroying her curse.
